Training, studies, and research; rules

Sec. 919. (1) The department shall support training, studies, and research as part of its overall responsibility with regard to the prevention of mental disorders and the care, treatment, and support of individuals with mental and emotional disorders and disturbances. (2) Subject to section 114a, the department shall promulgate rules to set standards for the protection of human subjects in mental health research. The standards shall at a minimum comply with the federal standards for the protection of human subjects in research administered or funded by the United States department of health and human services. All research conducted, sponsored, or funded by the department or a community mental health services program shall comply with the rules promulgated under this subsection.
